Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804)

If their child is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or qualified New Zealand citizen who has settled in Australia, elder parents who are currently in possession of temporary visas may do so permanently. There is now a long line for this specific visa, and approval times can range from seven to thirteen years. Aged parents who qualify may wish to apply for the Contributory Aged Parent visa, although this stream will charge a higher application cost and demand an Assurance of Support bond.

You must be the parent of a child who is either an eligible New Zealand citizen, an Australian citizen, or an Australian permanent resident.

• You may also receive sponsorship from: Your child’s spouse if your child is under the age of 18 (must be over 18 and an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen)
• a close family member or the child’s legal guardian; a close family member or the child’s spouse; a community organisation.
• Men who are aged parents must be 65 years of age or older to qualify.
• Female older parents should check their Date of Birth (DOB) in the table below to see if they qualify to apply.
